Shafer Media founder Dan Shafer invented the concept known as SmartEBooks and SmartEBooklets. These products consist of a collection of electronic books, software, sample programs, sounds, movies and other interactive elements all combined into a single, easy-to-download, easy-to-install package.

What makes SmartEBooks and SmartEBooklet's smart is that they "know" when a new version of their content is available. Each time you use one of these products, if you are connected to the Internet, it checks the Web site from which you downloaded the SmartEBook. If it finds a newer version of the product than you're using, it lets you know there's a fresher product available and gives you the opportunity of downloading the updated version. Whether and when you do so is entirely up to you.

This means that as typos get fixed, ideas get updated, new events affec the content of the electronic book or other component of a SmartEBook or SmartEBooklet, you're never more than one click away from having the latest ands greatest version right on your desktop.
